Material handling FAQs

Common questions from warehouse managers and operations leads.

Which forklift fuel type should I pick?

Electric: indoor use, quiet, zero emissions. Standard for warehouses and distribution.

LPG (propane): indoor/outdoor capable, faster refueling than electric, pneumatic tires for uneven surfaces.

Diesel: outdoor only. Heavy-duty lumberyards, construction sites, and outdoor storage. Not for indoor use due to emissions.

Forklift vs. stacker vs. pallet jack: which do I need?

Pallet jack: moves pallets on the floor. Cheapest, simplest.

Straddle stacker: lifts pallets to shelving heights (up to 145"). Walkie-behind operator, narrow-aisle friendly.

Forklift: highest capacity, longest travel distances, sit-down operator. Fastest but requires wider aisles.

Reach truck: stand-up narrow-aisle high-bay specialist. For warehouses with 20+ ft racking.

Do warehouse forklifts need a licensed operator?

Yes. OSHA 29 CFR 1910.178 requires forklift operators to be trained and certified on the specific class of forklift they operate. Training is typically a 4-8 hour course; certification is employer-provided and site-specific.

What's the difference between Li-Ion and lead-acid?

Lead-acid: lower up-front cost, 8-hour dedicated charging cycles, requires regular watering and maintenance, 3-5 year typical service life.

Li-Ion (lithium-ion): higher up-front cost, supports opportunity charging (charge during breaks), zero watering/maintenance, 2-3x longer service life. Typically pays back the premium in 2-4 years for multi-shift operations.

How much does Ekko cost vs. Toyota, Hyster, or Crown?

Ekko typically prices 30-50% below Toyota, Hyster, Yale, and Crown for equivalent capacity. Trade-off: less brand recognition and smaller US dealer network. Best for cost-conscious warehouses that don't need the resale value of a premium brand.

Do you offer fleet package pricing?

Yes. Multi-unit orders (2+ forklifts, stackers, or reach trucks) typically qualify for 5-15% package pricing plus combined freight savings. Send your equipment list at Commercial Quotes or call (470) 208-2754.

How is delivery on material handling equipment?

All larger equipment ships LTL freight with liftgate service. Free U.S. shipping applies. Delivery typically 7-15 business days from order. Larger forklifts and industrial scissor lifts may require truck-with-forklift delivery at the receiving location.

Do I need to prep my warehouse?

Basics: OSHA-compliant aisles (typically 12+ ft wide for sit-down forklifts, 8+ ft for stackers), reinforced concrete floor rated for the capacity load, adequate ceiling clearance for max lift height plus mast. Check individual spec sheets for exact turning radius and lift-height requirements.

What warranty is included?

Standard Ekko manufacturer warranty on all products. Typically 1-2 years on frame and structural components, 6-12 months on electrical and hydraulic. Lithium-ion battery packs carry separate 3-5 year battery-specific warranties. Pitstop Pro handles claims as authorized dealer.

Can I finance a fleet purchase?

Yes. Financing options available for commercial material handling purchases through third-party lenders. See the Financing page or request a personalized quote.
