Put 12,000 lbs in a Low Ceiling Bay with the Daytona LTPF12 Two Post Floorplate Lift

Most two post lifts want a 12 foot ceiling before you can even think about them, and that single number rules out an enormous number of real shops. Older buildings, converted units, strip-mall bays with a low deck above, home garages with a bonus room on top. The capacity you need exists, the money exists, and the ceiling says no. Shops in that position usually end up on an undersized mid-rise scissor lift and give up on real under-vehicle access.

The Daytona LTPF12 is the way around it. It is a floorplate lift, which means the equalization runs through a plate on the floor instead of an overhead bar, and the whole lift stands just 114.0". That is a 10 foot ceiling, not twelve and a half. You get the full 12,000 lb capacity, 74.8" of lifting height, and 112.0" of drive-thru clearance in a bay an overhead lift cannot legally occupy.

It runs dual chain drive hydraulic cylinders with automatic safety locks and single-point lock release, three-stage front arms reaching 32.3" to 63.8", and a heavy-duty baseplate design that carries the load into the floor rather than a top beam. Truck adapters, screw-up pads, and rubber door guards are all in the crate, and it runs on 240V single phase at 3 HP and 13 amps.

What is a floorplate lift, and what is the catch?

On an overhead lift the two columns are tied together by a beam across the top, which carries the equalization cables and a shutoff bar. On a floorplate lift that connection runs across the floor instead. The upside is height: 114.0" overall, so a 10 foot ceiling works. The catch is the plate itself, 19.5" wide, sitting on the floor between the columns. Technicians roll creepers and jacks over it, and it collects dirt. For most shops that is a fair trade for being able to run a 12,000 lb lift at all.

How much ceiling do I actually need?

The lift is 114.0" tall, which is 9'-6". Plan on a 10 foot ceiling to clear the structure with room for lighting. Measure to the lowest obstruction in the bay, not the peak, and remember the vehicle on the lift needs to clear too. Because there is no overhead bar, the tallest thing you can lift is limited by your ceiling rather than by the equipment.

How low a car can it pick up?

Two different numbers matter here and they are often confused. The arm pads sit 2.1" off the floor when the lift is fully down, which is what has to slide under the pinch weld. The lifting range starts at 4.33", which is where the pad is once it makes contact and begins to raise the car. If you are checking clearance on a low sports car, 2.1" is the figure to measure against.

Will a full-size truck fit?

Yes. The 12,000 lb rating covers three-quarter and one-ton pickups, full-size vans, and loaded work trucks, with 112.0" of drive-thru clearance between the carriages. The columns themselves sit 127.2" apart inside to inside, so the carriages are the narrow point to measure against. Truck adapters ship standard so the arms reach frame-contact points. Dual rear wheel trucks are worth a phone call to confirm against your specific configuration.

Chain drive versus direct drive, does it matter?

The LTPF12 uses dual chain drive hydraulic cylinders, where the cylinder pulls a chain that raises the carriage. Daytona's overhead models like the BR10-2OH-33 use direct drive instead. Chain drive is proven and serviceable, and the chain is a scheduled maintenance item rather than a wear surprise. Direct drive has fewer parts in the load path. Neither is a bad choice, and on a floorplate lift the chain arrangement is what the geometry calls for.

What concrete does it need?

Plan on a minimum of 8" of concrete at 3,000 PSI compressive strength, cured, level within 3/8" across the installation area, with no anchor placed within 6" of a crack, edge, or expansion joint. A floorplate lift anchors the plate as well as the columns, so slab condition across the whole footprint matters, not just under the posts. If your slab does not qualify, a pad can be poured. Verifying concrete is the customer's responsibility, and installing on an inadequate slab is genuinely dangerous.

Do I need three phase power?

No. 240V single phase, 3 HP, 13 amps, 60Hz on a dedicated circuit. Have a licensed electrician confirm the circuit and breaker sizing before the installer arrives.

How does delivery work?

The LTPF12 ships as freight in two pieces: the lift at 116" x 22" x 39" and 2,200 lbs, and the power unit at 31" x 12" x 11" and 60 lbs.
